Fielding a strong side, Cambridge United had little difficulty in winning their third consecutive Eastern Professional Floodlight League game by a 3-0 margin against Stevenage at the Abbey Stadium on Monday.

Athletic played attractively enough in midfield but they lacked any sort of penetration once they neared their opponents' goal and only the diminutive pair of Pitt and Parkin caused the home defence any problems.

In defence, Stevenage had their problems as both Huxford and Barker in turn had trouble checking the dangerous Peter Leggett and the lanky Hall was never happy against the darting Mal Lindsay who scored two of the United goals.

It was Leggett who scored the first goal in the seven th minute after a five-man move had left the Stevenage defence wide open.

In the 20th minute exactly the same thing happened again, and this time Harris set up the ball for Lindsay to hit home from the edge of the penalty area.

Stevenage had their best spell early on in the second half, but the promise soon disappeared and Lindsay settled the issue with his second goal 14 minutes from time when he headed home Leggett's centre.
